Chiropractic Care

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractors are doctors of the nervous system. We check the body for spinal misalignments that will interfere with the brain's ability to communicate with the rest of the body. The brain is what controls all the healing and functioning in the body and as chiropractors we ensure this brain-body connection is working at its optimum. Chiropractic provides gentle treatment to help patients get as healthy as possible without the use of drugs or surgery if possible.

Why Should I See a Chiropractor?

Spinal misalignments (subluxations) are created by physical (trauma), chemical (toxins), and emotional (stress) insults to the body. These problems can occur at any age, from birth through adulthood. The chronically poor lifestyle choices can take a toll on our bodies i.e. sitting all day, eating bad foods, high stress environments, etc. Chiropractic is a form of preventative care, ensuring the body is healing and functioning at an optimal level in order to enable the body to heal itself without an interference.

What is a Subluxation?

A misalignment of one or more of the 24 vertebra in the spinal column which causes alteration of mechanical and physiological function and transmission of mental impulses, resulting in a lessening of the body’s innate ability to express its maximum health potential.

There are three basic sources for subluxations: physical, chemical, and emotional. Physical causes could include slips and falls, accidents, repetitive motions, improper lifting, and postural imbalances. Chemical causes could include poor diet, alcohol, drugs, pollution and environmental exposure. Emotions such as chronic stress, loss, grief, anger and fear can cause subluxations. A person can have subluxations without even being aware of it and they can be present before the warning signs and/or pain appear. A chiropractor will perform a thorough comprehensive examination to locate the subluxations, determine the severity of the condition, and establish a care plan for the patient.

What is an Adjustment?

An adjustment is the specific application of forces in appropriate direction to facilitate the body’s correction of the vertebral subluxation. The chiropractic method of correction is by specific adjustment of the spine.

Is Chiropractic Care Safe?

The process of chiropractic adjustment is a safe, effective procedure which is performed nearly one million times every working day in the United States. Chiropractic care is neither harmful or dangerous. Chiropractic care is non-invasive; therefore, the body’s response to chiropractic care is far more predictable than its reactions to drug treatments or surgical procedures, and complications are exceedingly rare.

Perhaps the best summary statement on the subject of safety was published in 1979 by the Government of New Zealand which established a special commission to study chiropractic. They found:“The conspicuous lack of evidence that chiropractors cause harm or allow harm to occur through neglect of medical referral can be taken to mean only one thing: that chiropractors have on the whole an impressive safety record.” A thorough comprehensive exam can identify the person, who may not be suited for chiropractic care in rare instances.

Doula Services

A birth doula is a person trained in providing continuous physical, emotional and informational support to the mother and her family before, during, and after labor and childbirth.

The role of a postpartum doula is to help the new mother through her postpartum period and to nurture the whole family as they get accustomed to their new addition as a larger family unit.

Numerous studies have found that a doula’s presence at birth contributes to: shorter labors with fewer complications; greater satisfaction with one’s childbirth experience; positive breastfeeding relationships; reduced the need for interventions (pitocin inductions, forceps or vacuum extraction); reduced requests for pain medication and epidurals; reduction in the incidence of cesareans; and reduction in postpartum mood disorders.
