Self-Care isn't Selfish

Self-Care isn't Selfish

These days I'm learning a lot about taking care of myself. It's not necessarily an easy or comfortable process, but it's very much needed. For EVERY.ONE.of.US.

William Shakespeare said, "All the men and women [are] merely players...and one man [or woman] in [their] time plays many parts."

We play many of roles in our everyday life. We are parents, partners, entrepreneurs, individuals, siblings, children, and much more!

Self-care looks different for everyone. Sometimes it’s going to get your nails or hair done, having a massage, spending time with people you love, or even carving out some quiet time to read or meditate or reflect. The thing about self-care is that you are intentionally creating time to take care of yourself, to “water” yourself so-to-speak, to direct your energy to what your needs may be at a time.

For me personally, sometimes it’s getting dolled up, having a massage or other form of body work, dinner out with my girlfriends, date night with my husband, or an eventful night out on town. But more than often, it’s some quiet time in the bath, watching an episode of Grey’s Anatomy, or even as simple as washing my face with my Cleansing Balm by Beautycounter (one of my favorite products that’s also a miracle worker!). Occasionally, i just enjoy a little quiet time by myself late in the evenings after everyone has gone to bed, playing Bejeweled. ;)

And that’s why, as we balance ALL.THE.THINGS., we have to include ourselves on that list as well. And for the bonus round, surround yourself with amazing people who will also help lift you up, water your tired leaves, give you a little pick-me-up, bring you coffee, send you a silly meme, or keep you company on the phone when you're driving late at night. I am blessed beyond measure to have women (and men!) in my life who help me see my shiny self when I don't necessarily can.

Cultivate those friendships, near and far! Send your love, even via text, call, or a social media tag! And smile when you get a message back saying, "I miss you, too! xoxo" It'll make your and their day!

If you don’t think you have someone to turn to, message me right now as you’re reading this…send me a text at 770.609.5544 and you will hear back from me!
